And are they enough to truly get emissions under control?<\/p>\n<h4>Giant Air Purifiers &amp; Mechanical Trees<\/h4>\n<p>In cities like Beijing and Rotterdam, giant filter towers are already operating, removing fine dust and CO\u2082 from the air. These structures are often designed as art installations and are expected to become even more effective in the future.<br \/>\nScientists have developed \u201cmechanical trees\u201d that use special discs to absorb CO\u2082 a thousand times faster than real trees. The first prototypes are already in place in the USA and are soon expected to go into mass production.<\/p>\n<h4>Industrial Carbon Capture and Utilization<\/h4>\n<p>In Australia and Norway, large amounts of CO\u2082 are captured directly from industrial emissions and stored deep underground (Carbon Capture and Storage, CCS). Australia\u2019s Gorgon Project stores up to 4 million tons of CO\u2082 per year\u2014equivalent to the emissions of over 800,000 cars.<br \/>\nIn California, CO\u2082 from power plant exhaust is used to produce building materials like cement. The range of ideas spans high-tech innovations, clever everyday solutions, and curious inventions. But as impressive as these solutions are, they are not enough to solve the climate crisis on their own.
